Critic Consensus: Though Upload at times suffers from tonal overload, witty writing and a winsome cast make it an afterlife worth living.

I love Upload because it's so smart, so funny and so imaginatively complicated.

What little spark there is, either in friendship or the tiny embers of romance sprinkled throughout, just isn't all that connected to the high concept ideas at its premise.

At least over the first 8 of the 10 Upload episodes, those larger ideas are submerged in mediocre plotting, strained comic antics and a sleep-inducing romance.
Where the show excels is in playing out its premise at length, and in depth.
"Upload" is very much its own thing, and a good thing at that.

The ideas are superficial, the performances are mostly bland, and the plotting is frustrating. Worst of all, it's just not that funny.
