Fallout from a drug deal gone awry plays out in the Season 3 opener. Also in the mix: Celia acquires Nancy's stash; a tough lawyer (Carrie Fisher) works on Celia's custody battle; Nancy gets swept up in U-Turn's nefarious gangster work; Silas hits it off with a fundamentalist Christian (Mary-Kate Olsen) with a penchant for pot; Nancy meets Peter's ex-wife; Nancy receives a surprise windfall from the DEA; and Conrad takes Silas under his wing at the growhouse. Later, Nancy considers taking a biker gang as a new client; and Shane shows signs of mental instability.

It remains a treat to hear the latest odd way Parker has chosen to deliver each of her lines... Elizabeth Perkins and, especially (and surprisingly), Kevin Nealon carry the comedy water even when the show around them has gone to pot.

In its second season, Weeds became one of the best plotted shows on TV, routinely ending episodes on cliffhangers that TV's best dramas should envy. That continues this season, even though there's an unwelcome hint of season one's depressing ennui.
