Critic Consensus: Benefiting from a change of scenery and a renewed sense of purpose for Nancy Botwin, Weeds' seventh season overcomes its lack of narrative direction with solid characterization.

Nancy Botwin has moved to New York, and that may give her Showtime series Weeds some of the fresh energy the move was designed to provide.
The series has been an enormous success, but if it was wobbling off the tracks last year, it crashed and exploded off of them this season. Every episode felt like a complete mess. There was no continuity, no pacing.
It starts off strong and has a lot of promise, as the family has moved on and away; soon enough, though, they are all living together in New York and behaving unrealistically and negotiating unfunny storylines.
Weeds has never been a particularly realistic show, but some of the things that happen over the course of the season are so implausible that it doesn't even feel like the writers are trying anymore.
