Spooky Encounters (Gui da gui)

Martial arts/horror/comedy that isn't really scary and only fitfully funny it does have one saving grace though Sammo Hung. The fight scenes are all spectacular I just wish there were more of them as I found the stuff in between not overly compelling.

The Witch
The Witch (2016)
6 years ago via Rotten Tomatoes

The Witch is well crafted and acted but doesn't follow through on some of it's better ideas leaving the ending feeling like a bit of a let down. Still it has enough creepy scenes and solid performances to make it a decent little period horror film, the unease just doesn't stick with you like the best of these films manage.

Deadpool
Deadpool (2016)
6 years ago via Rotten Tomatoes

Deadpool spends most of it's run time sending the jokes and violence flying at a breakneck pace. It's gleefully aware of comic book movie cliche and pokes fun at them, it does fall victim to that at times as still using a cliche and then winking at it isn't as good as just subverting it. In the end Deadpool has enough cool action and jokes that land to make it an enjoyable ride and it at least knows enough not to overstay it's welcome.

Kingsman: The Secret Service
6 years ago via Rotten Tomatoes

Finally saw Kingsman and was quite disappointed, the action choreography was fine but I found the weird centering of it jarring. Every once and while they had some great moment of spy movie parody or funny referential line but the puzzling story had me going from "what's going on" to "really, that's where they went with this". Finally I didn't find any of the characters terribly interesting or much more than one note caricature, really don't get the love people were giving to Sam Jackson for his villain.
