For hard core fans of the show, it's easy to go with the flow, but there's nothing here to entice the outsider to venture further into the hygienically challenged world of Steptoe & Son.
Certainly no biopic, Nijinsky is short on facts, but long on expression. There is a beautiful, aching sadness to it all. Paul Cox needed to show it. It is up to you to decide if you need to see it.
While trying to be cool and edgy, it just ends up being too elliptical for its own good.
Tim is a cloying, if heartfelt, fairytale about a "simple" gardener who falls in love with an older, American businesswoman. A nice idea, but it's distractingly played out without an eye to reality.
Although the film has it's share of lulls, you can keep yourself amused by watching the cast ham it up. Tyrrell as always, is fun to watch and goes cheerfully over the top playing the demented Aunt Cheryl.
the performances and the suspenseful direction by Susanne Bier keeps the viewer riveted, while the handsome production and the gorgeous stars give it a gritty glamour.
Kate Winslet delivers a powerhouse performance (when doesn't she?) in Todd Haynes's faithful and relatively restrained adaptation of James M Cain's novel.
[Sarah] Gadon's performance is remarkable and the direction of Mary Harron ("I Shot Andy Warhol") improves it further still: In tight focus, her eyes betray nothing, or rather betray no one.
Godless offers compelling drama, combining a number of intriguing storylines with its classic tale of a good-hearted fugitive pursued by a vicious gang.
If you're thinking about hte gender politics of the show, consider how each of the major characters is introduced... the men are weak and injured, while the women are strong.
