Dementia (Daughter of Horror)
22 months ago via Rotten Tomatoes
½

Deliciously inventive in some ways, but on the whole tediously boring! A 1950s low budget silent movie. It seems the thought was put into about 10 minutes in total where scenes are inventive and disturbing. The rest of the hour is pure tedious filler - jazz songs, long slow scenes and any atmosphere and tension that is built up rapidly dissipates.

This film is a lot better than it could have been. It always looks like its teetering on the edge of being overly sentimental, but this survival against the odds tale just about keeps its head above water and is strangely moving.

This film is absolutely terrible. It's one of those third rate horrors where everything is 'off' and you hate yourself for sticking with it. Mediocre acting, a nonsensical story and unbelievable characters. The only thing going for it is that it is slightly understated. Watching anything else is a better way to spend 105 minutes...

A slow burning great film with an all star cast. Made around the time of the moon landings, you can imagine the impact this must have had at the time. I first watched this about 35 years ago and it has lost none of its power. Played deadly straight, this is a masterclass in storytelling.

Bringing back memories of classic Science Fiction films like 2001 and Silent Runnings, this film has a contemporary edge too. Hugely entertaining and interesting, a modern sci fi classic.
