A perfect example of how casting can propel a movie. This was exactly the movie it set out to be, and as such leaves the viewer feeling a of genuine pleasure. The people story, chemistry between the leads and supporting cast, it all comes together.
Amazing example of film making and storytelling.
Season 11 was one of discovery for all who watched, Sandra Oh had been a huge part of the show, and her character a personal favourite, but a few episodes in, all was well. As the season rolled by there was so much to get your teeth into that Yang was not as missed as I thought. The acting in this show seems to go from strength to strength, with more and more character development, even to the original cast, making Grey's seem fresh, the characters really have a realism about them, they are not the same people we met in season one!
The drama of this show has sometimes been critiqued as being to much on the spectacular, yet this season with the loss of a main character the drama was pulled back, less spectacle, more heart, soul and genuine emotion. Episodes 21 and 22 are possibly the best 3 hours of television all year, clever, yet devastatingly effective at drawing the audience in and crushing them. The character growth I spoke of is what makes this so effective, we care about the characters, so a loss like this is a genuine trauma.
Episode 22, although very different, was a master class of writing, showing how to lose a main character, give that loss a proper closure and move on without forgetting, sheer class.
15 years into this character driven juggernaut, it still feels as fresh and captivating as it did in season 1. Rarely does a tv show allow us to see such character growth and development, testament to why so many of us just can't leave this show alone. We love these characters like family members, we feel their pain, cry together and laugh along with witty dialogue as if we are in the room.
Grey's might not please all of the critics all of the time, but we don't care, Shonda gave us what we needed. Long may it continue!
Quite simply the most original and funny British show since Skins. Hilarious, rude and extremely honest, it gives the viewer everything they want from a tv show. Bravo Netflix for bringing us this gem, can't for season 2!
