- I like that Auntie Mame quote so much that I try to live it. My interests are eclectic and I usually want to keep discovering, learning, and experiencing. I watch the wonder in children when they come on something they've never encountered before and I try to keep that kind of wonder in myself. I don't always succeed, but I try. I think being jaded is the apex of ignorance and an indicator of a limited mind. I believe boredom is sad and unnecessary. If I get a little line at the end of my life I want it to be "That was interesting" not "What was that about" My reviews aren't long. There are plenty of places to find in-depth information about a film. My Favorite Actors list is in no particular order and is made up of actors I enjoy watching perform. It's not a list of Greatest Actors According to Me. Very talented cast in a movie that's mostly a waste of time. I got some laughs trying to figure out Tuesday Weld's accent. The rest of the film is devoted to discussing sex then having sex. There's also anger, a bit of violence, "art", "science" and an attempt to convince us it's the '20s.
Another look at Some Like It Hot and Victor/Victoria. I'd gotten to the point of turning this off when something akin to the Stockholm Syndrome possessed me. My captor turned out to be a feel-good movie with an everyone loves everyone ending. Plenty of show tunes and good drag queen make-up. Don't try this one if you're feeling snobby. Caricature people and situations. I could watch this again.
Dustin Hoffman played an interesting piece of scum. Other than him, no surprises here. A real time waster.
The guy who played Roy (Kent Douglass) was ridiculous, but the rest of the cast was convincing. Fallen woman in London, where bombs are also falling from Zeppelins. Will she say yes and marry the impulsive soldier (Roy)? Not bad. Better if Roy had been played by someone more believable.
"Adult" themes and situations. The bad girl basically gets away with it all, even when she loses. Using men to better herself and who cares who gets hurt.
