Oland stars once again as Charlie Chan, called to solve the mystery of a wealthy man, presumed dead for years, but murdered after he returned to claim his fortune. An entertaining episode in the long saga, this film also has a bit more energy and verve thanks to interesting paranormal vignettes that add a darker twist.
Ladies and gentlemen - Dwain Esper. One of the biggest name in the 'educational' roadside shows who made and produced films so exploitational that they could only have been made by being sold as films of social indoctrination. This film about an adulteress wife intertwining with archive footage of patients suffering from veneral diseases just shows perfectly the kind of stuff these films were. Excuses to attract crowds to a darker, disgusting, sexual celluloid shows. Sex Madness is quite possibly the worst film ever made, so cliché and so naïve to be worthy of being forgotten or derided.
The story of a young boy with a great destiny, who enters the Hogwarth School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The start of a franchise that was to become one of the most important and prolific in cinema history. This first addition is really still more fun for a young audience, with its blend of fun and dark mystery, but for anyone who isn't a fan of the saga, it is quite dull, too long and even a little formulaic.
A poor boy who spent most his life in jail due to an inevitable descent in crime despite his good nature goes back home. Old fashioned melodrama that, despite the second grade screenplay that lacks depth and appears too preachy, sets up good dramatic energy.
A thirty eight year old novelist and a sixteen year old girl decide to get married and more to America. A strange drama that deals with an unusual and borderline tasteless subject without feeling exploitational. However, it is also dull and quite simply hard to care for.
