This is a wonderful movie based on a true story. Judi Dench is Judi Dench... as always, a joy to watch. Steve Coogan is very realistic in his role. He and Dench are very convincing in their words to one another.

August: Osage County

I'm surprised that this movie didn't get a higher rating. Although it "bleeds" you throughout the first half, it matures/sets in the second half. This movie reminds me of O'Neill's Long Day's Journey Into the Night (with humor thrown in). I expect to get my money's worth with Meryl Streep, and wow, Julia Robert's is there with her every step on the way. I felt that Julianne Nicholson's portrayal of the daughter/sister Ivy was off and hurt the film. But I feel this movie deserved a higher rating. It is southern gothic at its best!

Saving Mr. Banks

Emma Thompson shines. Colin Farrell is good, and Paul Giamatti gets it right! Thouroughly entertaining. Tom Hanks Walt Disney is a one (two?) dimensional character, but what else could you expect from Disney?

The Wizard of Oz

If you're a Wizard of Oz fan I urge you to see this release in IMAX. It's only going to be on for a week.

I would have given this movie five stars if they'd cut the first scene of Cecil as a young child working on a cotton farm with his mother and father. The scene plays out as sensational, too "Mandingo". And why is Mariah Carey in this movie (Cecil's mother)? She's a distraction and even though she has little speaking lines, it's painfully obvious that she can't act. I believe Forrest Whitaker's telling of his childhood would have served the movie much better. After Cecil leaves his childhood home the movie comes alive. Forest Whitaker and Oprah Winfrey are both excellent. The story is excellent. I encourage everyone to see it.
