Trollhunter
Trollhunter (2011)

Andr√ (C) √~vredal‚(TM)s Troll Hunter has become something of a cultural phenomenon in its native Norway upon its release last year and now in 2011 the rest of the world finally get to see this monster hit! Troll Hunter sees a group of three student film makers stumble upon a solitary figure with a very weird occupation ‚" that being that he is in the field of hunting down big nasty trolls for a secret sector of the Norwegian government, the team decide to follow him and catch all of his exploits on film to put on show for the rest of the world to see.
Troll Hunter perfectly balances both horror and comedy and feels like an odd mash up of The Blair Witch Project meets Ghostbusters! My initial perception after seeing the trailer back last year was that it looked an interesting concept but with their being budget constraints I doubted that I would be privy to seeing many trolls lumbering around on screen, but how wrong was I! There are trolls aplenty to be seen here and they come in several weird and wonderful varieties and the best news of all is that visually they look fantastic, no ropey cgi to be seen here as the trolls look as authentic as could be and have a very eerie human quality to them, very akin to that of the creatures seen in 2009‚(TM)s Where The Wild Things Are. Unfortunately Troll Hunter is one of those movies that will pass the casual cinema audience by, but for those who do seek it out will be richly rewarded, and with a sequel and a big budget Hollywood remake on the horizon the troll hunting business has never looked brighter!

Hobo With a Shotgun

½

Hobo With A Shotgun is like the bastard child of 80's Troma and schlock classic Street Trash, this is truly brutal stuff and really captures the grindhouse spirit. Add to this the fact that the closing credits plays out to the awesome theme music from classic 80's cartoon "The Raccoons" just about solidifies this as one of the best damn movies I have seen this year.
