Fascinating, but ultimately its a little thin on substance, and understandably so. Nonetheless, it serves as a good base for how the series will develop further down the line.

Whilst I agree with Ed Norton that this could have been far better, its still no trainwreck and actually holds up better than a few other Marvel films to be honest. The advancements in CGI since this 2008 release make it unfair to judge the effects too harshly aswell. Norton gives a typically solid performance but without much substance to work with, it definitely feels unfulfilled. Could have been better, till not bad.

One of the first and certainly among the best the Marvel Universe has to offer. Downey Jr is perfect as the charismatic Tony Stark, the plot is rich and current, characters are given depth and while there is a nice dose of humour, this film doesnt ever try to go full-on comedy like some of the later ones in the MCU and its all the better for it. You're hardly going to feel the threat of imminent doom when every second line is a corny joke. Brilliantly balanced.

Captain America: The First Avenger

Could have benefited from a touch more darkness, seeing as its dealing with a subject like the Great War, but overall this is a truly solid effort and origin story for The Avenger. The glaring plot hole for Caps final assault does detract a little but there is more than enough good action and character development for a satisfying watch.

Justice League

Far from brilliant, but its nice to see a Superhero film that isn't masquerading as a comedy. If you can tolerate the virtue signaling, beyond it you will find a film with decent action scenes, dark impending doom and smatterings of genuine heart. As for drawbacks, the humour isn't all that humorous and the main villain isn't particularly convincing and Aquaman has the verbal capabilities of an urban teenager or beach bum. There is potential for far better.
